Frequently Asked Questions
The Hebrew School of the Performing Arts is a unique Hebrew school designed to teach Judaic subjects solely through the creative and performing arts.
Here are our top 3:
1) To provide a robust Jewish education to students who cannot be in Jewish Day schools because of their learning differences.
2) Teaching students in a multi-sensory approach where the students leave class having had so much fun, while learning the material.
3) Provide a social community for the students to make new friends and walk away with a love and appreciation of all things Jewish.
This program is by semester only, so we cannot accept weekly signups now. Your child can get the most benefit from our program by consistent attendance. Plus, she will enjoy it so much, she will be begging for more!
Here is a sample of the creative educational approach to learning:
Gymnastics and movement introduces letter/sound connection, e.g. making the shapes of the letters with their bodies
Kinesthetic activities provide for greater retention and involvement. e.g marching across the Balance Beam for the letter Bet
Using varied art mediums to practice Aleph-Bet writing
Learn to understand and speak Hebrew in an art class, where the projects are all lead in Hebrew
Beginners Dance introduces the concepts of the Parsha/Jewish Holidays
Art projects for upcoming Jewish Holidays
Games and activities on a giant physical map of Israel, which introduces the major cities and landmarks and their locations
Baby Boot Camp
Prayers will be taught through use of song and musical instruments
We know that children with learning differences benefit from small group and individualized instruction. We keep class size at 6 girls per class and add new classes as they fill.
Currently, we have begun to bring together our Rabbinical Committee which includes Rabbi Hopfer and Rabbi Rose.
This program is designed for Jewish children in grades 1-12, who do not go to Jewish Day Schools because of learning differences.
